Response To Feedback From Group Pitch

Response To Feedback From Group Pitch

Me and my group decided to take Luke’s advice and feedback and we decided to improve our Idea following Luke’s Feedback as to possibly make the best music video we can. Bellow is a screenshot of the basic answers which we decided as a group to each individual piece of feedback which was given to us by Luke and which I went into detail in the post before this:

The different tasks that we assigned each other to try and improve the ides were as follows:
  • Develop the performance element = LUCAS
  • Develop and increase the size of the female portion (Dance, Fashion etc.) = KAI
  • Improve even more the look of the of the Hotel Room = GUSTAVO

We set our selves the deadline of having this done by the next morning so that we could put together a presentation so that we could re-pitch our idea to Luke. As can bee seen above I was in charge of developing the performance element:

As we were going to increase the portion of the music video which took place in the room with the female dancer on the bed I was going to have to decrease the size of the part where it is just the male singer walking towards the camera, I wanted to decrease the size of it rather than take away as was sort of implied by Luke, because I really thought that the idea had potential and because all the people besides for Luke and my teacher which I had presented my idea to had told me that their favourite part of the music video would be the part with the male singer walking towards the camera, but obviously my media teacher and Luke have more experience with music videos and they know what works and what doesn’t, so I decided to take advice from both sides and simply shorten the duration of it rather than take it away completely. So my idea for this shot would be that it would still be filmed in slow motion with heavy red and blue light ing but that it would only last about 45 seconds to a minute at the beginning of the song, and it would only take place in two locations, firstly the out in the street ad secondly in a red lit corridor right before the singer walks into the hotel room. So it still shows the same idea of a journey to this hotel room but as advised now we are going to have more shots of the room and less of the journey there. Two video which are sort of similar the slow motion section of our music video which i had in mind are by an artist called The Weeknd, one of them is called King of The Fall and the second is called The Hills, both the videos use this slow motion film style whilst the male singer is walking and I really feel that this style is very stylistic, unique and effective.

Luke said that there would be no point in filming in slow motion if we didn't show it off, he said it would take a lot of effort and he felt that if we are going to take the time to do this then we would really have to take advantage of it and impress people. So in my mind I was wondering how could I show off the slow motion effect, well, I would have to use a lot of movement, because that is hat would look impressive with the slow motion; So I have decided the that the singer will have to do a lot of hand movements towards the camera because then one will really be able to see that its filmed in slow motion; Another thing which I thought could be added would be rain, I think rain falling down will also show that its filmed in slow motion because people know how fast rain is supposed to fall and if its going slowly people will be able to tell that its filmed in slow motion.

As for the lighting which I was talking about for both the outside part of this first performance section and the part which will take place in a corridor, bellow are photos which reflect my view for the lighting which I would want to use. it is a mixture of red’s and blues outside, and only red in the corridor as can be seen bellow:

Group Pitch Feed Back

Feedback from Group Pitch

After presenting our ideas to the man in charge of music videos at our school called Luke, we decided with him that it would be best to go with our first idea which was the music video for the song “Without U” by Spooky Black. Luke gave us back feedback for this idea, I wrote down the feedback which he gave us on my laptop, bellow is a screenshot from my computer of the feedback which Luke gave us:

In our opinion we felt that Luke did not really like our idea and we felt that he did not see much potential in it, so we sat together as a group and decided to look at the feedback that Luke gave us and to analyse it.

As seen in the screenshot above, Luke told us that we need to include more of the female in the room, he told us that this what the audience really wanted to see, which is an attractive girl not wearing very many clothes dancing around in a bed, which makes sense, if we want our target audience to be teenagers they are are going to be more interested in seeing a sexy girl then a boy singing. We hence decided that the solution to this problem would be to simply add more of the female.

Also seen in the screen shot is the fact that Luke told us that if we were going to have the slow motion effect on the shot of the the male character sing, it would have to have a lot of movement to it as to show off the effect because otherwise there would be no point in doing it, it would be a lot of effort for a shot which isn't as interesting as we would want it to be.

Another piece of feedback which Luke gave us was that if the female character was going to be dancing on the bed throughout the video then the dance would have to be choreographed. We would not be able to simply show up on the day and tell our actress to improvise a dance because it would be way to hard and it would look awkward and unprepared to the viewer, and since this is what the audience really want to see it has to look really good.

Some of the positive feedback which we got from Luke was that he liked the look of the red motel room and the look of the water filling the floor throughout the video, so he advised us to keep in, but he wanted us to think about it in more detail. Luke also said that he really like the song choice and the way that our music video concept fit in with  and accentuated the slow vibe of the song, and said that it was smart of us to play with that.

Luke also said that it might be a smart idea to maybe not show the male characters face for the parts that take place in the room to really accentuate the female character and to really make her the focus of the video because as previously mentioned, he believed that she should be the main focus of the video because she will be what the audience will mostly want to look at.

The final piece of criticism that Luke had for us was that our Idea might not be long enough to fill a whole music video and that even if we made it long enough it would not keep our audience entertained for very long because the music video in his opinion was just many shots of the male character/singer walking around, and Luke believed that this could get boring after just a minute, let alone 5.

Initial Pitch

Today I pitched my three music video ideas to my class, I began with Idea number 1 which was a music video for the song Without U by Spooky Black, I then presented my music video idea for the song Pure Luxury by Tyga and finally I presented my third idea which was for the song My Main by Mila J. Bellow is a run down of some of the feedback I got for each idea:

Idea 1:
My first idea was the idea which was the most liked by my class mates, they they thought the simplicity of it would give it a very slick and effortlessly good look. the most liked aspect of the idea was the slow-motion effect I would have with the video, they thought this would make it look very unique and they thought that it was an easy way to make the video look more professional. The lighting I planned on using video was also very liked by my class mates and they thought it would make it look very “trippy” & “cool”. Some of the problems some people thought there might be with the idea was first of all the fact that they thought that the idea of just following the character is slow motion for a whole music video could get quite boring, they also thought that it would be hard to get the floating effect I was planning on using.

Idea 2:
One of the things my classmates really liked about this idea was how well it fit in with the conventions of rap music video’s and they thought that it would be really good to have as a music video because when it comes to writing about in the exam for example it would be very easy to explain how it fit in with the stereotypes and convention of rap music video’s. The aspect of the video which was probably most appreciated by my classmates was the fire aspect of the music video, they felt it could really add a “WOW” effect to the video and impress people. There were several people who had constructive criticism for this video, firstly I was told that it would be hard to find actors in my school who look intimidating and look like the stereotypical rapper and rapper crew because everyone in my school looks like they are pretty well off and they are all pretty young. Finally one of my classmates explained that last year when she was planning her thriller intro for AS that she discussed with her film teacher about filming at night and apparently it is quite challenging to get the lighting to look right.

Idea 3:
This idea was also quite liked by my classmates, mostly by the females in my class that enjoyed the idea of having a female be the dominant figure over men in a rap music video for once. My class mates liked the idea of having the video take place in an expensive house and with expensive cars, they thought that it would also be quite possible because, quite a few kids in my school live near the school and have very big houses and expensive cars. There was also some constructive criticism, for example the idea of shooting in the pool was thought to be hard because we film the music videos in November and there for it would be quite cold and therefore very hard to film in the swimming pool, and a few people expressed there concern that the female might come off looking like a prostitute of she is counting money with many men around her not wearing a lot of clothing.
