Ollie Allgrove Lecture

Ollie Allgrove Lecture

Today my class and I were told that we were going to have a special guest come in to give us a lecture and to give us tips for our music videos, it turned out that it was a man named ollie all grove who works at a production company. Bellow is a photo of Ollie give us the lecture:

Ollie Allgrove is an Executive Producer ho has worked on Feature Films, Commercials and Music Videos, which is why he was here today presenting us. Ollie works for the production company called Passion Pictures which is an independent company which is multi award winning and most notably Oscar Award Winning. Mr. Allgrove explained to us that Passion Pictures tells stories through various different techniques such as animation, live action, sign and through visual effects. Passion Pictures is also a talent management company which represents producers, VFX artists and especially directors because this is what commissioners want.

Ollie Allgrove then delved specifically into music videos he explained to us that music video directors and directors in general have to be able to communicate there vision to other people so that they can execute his/her vision accurately. Directors fit into the music industry in a very special way because they offer unique visual voice and they offer a creative point of view. When it comes to cerise decisions on a music video there are three main people who can really make the call on these big decisions, the commissioner, Management and the Artist’s them selves. We were also explained that he artist wants and needs four things: firstly the artist wants hits, hits, hits (views), they also want controversy, noise and impact, the reason for this is that it will create publicity for the artist and will lead to a rise in popularity. The artist and the director have to stay very communicative with each other and share there visons so that they both come out happy. Ollie also gave us a whole talk on the production and post production stages of a music video, and he also gave us some of his own anecdotes about two music videos he has created in the past, firstly for the artist Joe Lean and secondly GodFrapp. I recorded Ollie’s explanation of the production and post production stages and it can be seen bellow:

Audience Profiling Mood Board

Audience Profiling Mood Board

Above is my Audience Profiling Mood Board, the point of it is to try and visually portray what I think my target audience would look like and what they would like, the age I believe my target audience would be would be from between 16 years old and 21 years old. My target audience consists of both males and females, because the song is about love and it is sung, which is what would stereotypically attract a female audience, but at the same time the singer is quite heavily involved with rappers and with the rap scene as well as with male fashion which is what would stereotypically attract a male audience of that age. They would probably be into quite underground and unconventional music types but leaning towards underground and alternative hip hop rather than something such as alternative or underground rap. I that my target audience would be quite artistic, creative and stylistic because that is what Spooky Black embodies, and I believe that that is what our music vide which we will create will also be like. In accordance with this they would probably be heavily interested in fashion as well. I believe that all these facades of my chosen target audience is accurately portrayed in my mood board above.
